Julia L. "Judy" Flowers, who worked for 40 years for a Randallstown florist, died Sunday from pneumonia at Hospice & Community Care in Lancaster, Pa. She was 84.
The former Julia L. Frazier was born in Baltimore and raised in the city's Pimlico neighborhood. She was a 1947 graduate of Forest Park High School and what is now Baltimore City Community College. She also attended Gettysburg College and what is now McDaniel College.
Mrs. Flowers began working for Don Flowers Florist in Randallstown in 1950, and a year later, married its owner, Richard Donald Flowers.
"When you're in a retail business like that, you do everything," said Mr. Flowers, who lives in Lancaster.
The business eventually expanded to locations at North Plaza Mall and Owings Mills, before the couple gave it to a nephew in 1990. It has since closed.
Mrs. Flowers lived for years in Randallstown before moving to Gettysburg, Pa., and then Lancaster in 2010. She had been an active member of Mount Olive United Methodist Church in Randallstown and later St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Terre Hill, Pa.
She was a duckpin bowler and enjoyed golfing at Piney Branch Golf & Country Club in Upperco. She also was an active square dancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olive United Methodist Church, 5115 Old Court Road, Randallstown.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, Mrs. Flower is survived by a son, Larry Flowers of Randallstown; a daughter, Donna Lynne Doyle of New Holland, Pa.; a sister, Marge Vaughn of Clearwater, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
