Mountain Road crash near Pasadena kills minivan driver

A man who fled from a police officer attempting to make a traffic stop was killed minutes later in a single-car crash early Thursday on Mountain Road near Pasadena, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

The driver, identified as Amon Samuel White, 25, of Baltimore was driving a red Honda minivan with Maryland tags. Police said they had taken complaints about the vehicle at 12:56 a.m., and an officer saw the minivan "driving erratically and swerving" across Fort Smallwood Road.

The officer attempted to stop the White, who police said drove away and out of sight. Police followed the minivan, and found it on Mountain Road near Fairwood Road. White had struck a tree, causing fatal injuries. Nobody else was in the vehicle.

Police believe speed was the primary cause of the accident, have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Anyone with information about the crash can call traffic safety officers at 410-222-8573.

A previous version of this story misspelled Amon Samuel White's last name and had the incorrect date for the accident.
