One stabbed, one shot, both fatally in 12-hour span in city

A 34-year-old man was stabbed in Baltimore and died of his wounds early Friday morning, while city police identified the victim of a man fatally shot 12 hours before.

Police responded to the 2700 block of W. North Ave. around 2 a.m. Friday to a report of a cutting. An officer found the victim, who has not been identified, lying unresponsive on steps at the location having suffered a stab wound to his upper body.

He was treated at the scene and transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but pronounced dead at 2:44 a.m.

Thursday afternoon, a 24-year-old man, who police identified Friday as Audie Mickens, was fatally shot near the Gilmor Homes public housing development in West Baltimore. The shooter approached Mickens, pulled a handgun and opened fire, police said. Mickens fled but the shooter followed and kept shooting, police added.

Officers searched for a weapon that a 911 caller said was discarded by the fleeing suspect. A Mercedes SUV with temporary Virginia tags being sought in the crime was found abandoned on Pennsylvania Avenue.
