Margaret M. Ekin, homemaker

Margaret Miller Ekin, a homemaker and bookkeeper who had lived in Catonsville, died Feb. 2 of heart failure at Austell Presbyterian Village in Austell, Ga.

She was 98.

The daughter of farmers, Anna Margaret Miller, who did not use her first name, was born and raised in Miller's Corner in Howard County.

She was a graduate of Ellicott City High School. During the Depression, she worked as a bookkeeper for a decade at the old Miller Chevrolet in Ellicott City, which had been established by one of her brothers.

She married Walter C. Ekin, a salesman for Westinghouse Electric Corp., in 1939. The couple lived in Pittsburgh and Cleveland before moving to Catonsville in 1947.

Mrs. Ekin was a former member of Catonsville Presbyterian Church, where took part in the choir and Presbyterian Women.

She enjoyed playing golf and painting. She worked in oils and watercolors and liked painting landscapes, portraits and still lifes.

She and her husband, who died in 1983, moved to Austell in 1974.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home, 7250 Washington Blvd., in Elkridge.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas C. Ekin of Naperville, Ill., Jack Ekin of Lake Tahoe, Calif., and Bruce Ekin of Kennesaw, Ga.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
