North Baltimore is losing the grocery store that replaced a Superfresh only seven months ago.
The Fresh & Green's supermarket on 41st Street in the Hampden neighborhood will be acquired by Giant Foods. Giant will close its store in the nearby Rotunda shopping center and move to the 41st St. site, Giant announced Friday.
The Fresh & Green's store on Harford Road in Parkville will also be acquired by Giant, the company said in a news release.
Giant will acquire both Fresh & Green's stores from Mrs. Green's Management Corp. The two stores will be closed for renovations and converted to Giant supermarkets but no date has been set as the deal has not yet been finalized, said Jamie Miller, a spokesman for Giant.
The Rotunda location has only 33,000 square feet, whereas the 41st Street location has 47,800 square feet, and will allow Giant to provide "a broader selection of for our customers," he said.
"It allows us to expand our operations with minimal disruptions," Miller said.
The 125 Fresh & Green's store employees will be offered job opportunities with Giant, and the Rotunda Giant employees will continue to work for Giant, the release said.
