Elizabeth B. "Betsy" Bacot, a retired teacher and administrative assistant whose career spanned half a century, died Wednesday of heart failure at Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie.
The longtime Round Bay resident was 79.
Mrs. Bacot had retired this year from St. Martin's-in-the-Field Episcopal Church in Severna Park, where she had been a teacher and administrative assistant for 50 years in the church's day school.
She was also an active communicant of the church, where she had served as coordinator of the flower guild and ushers.
The daughter of a physician and a homemaker, Elizabeth Briscoe was born and raised in Prince Frederick.
She attended St. Mary's Seminary and graduated in 1949 from what was then St. Mary's Junior College in St. Mary's City. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1951 in early childhood education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Mrs. Bacot had lived in Severna Gardens and later Round Bay. She was a member and former president of the Hollyberry Garden Club and had been president of the Kiwives.
An avid bridge player, she was a member of the Round Bay Bridge Ladies and had been an active member for years of the Round Bay Community Association. She was also a member of the Anne Arundel County Concert Association.
Her husband of 39 years, Julian G. Bacot, a construction estimator, died in 1991.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at her church, 375 Benfield Road, Severna Park.
Surviving are a son, Marshall N. Bacot of Linthicum; two daughters, Ann B. Edwards of Severna Park and Rebecca B. Erikson of Modesto, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
