Paul D. "Denny" Owings, a retired Black & Decker Corp. manager and volunteer firefighter, died May 14 of heart failure at his home in New Bern, N.C.
The former Lutherville resident was 66.
Mr. Owings was born in Baltimore and raised in Lutherville. He was a 1962 graduate of Towson Catholic High School and earned a degree in industrial management from the University of Baltimore in 1969.
Mr. Owings, who retired from Black & Decker in 2005 as a manager of engineering projects, had worked for the toolmaker at plants in Fayetteville, N.C., and Towson during his 42-year career.
A resident of New Bern since 2007, Mr. Owings was a longtime Lutherville resident and had been an active member for 25 years of the Lutherville Volunteer Fire Company.
He liked to fish and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, said his wife of 45 years, the former Mary Schmitz.
Mr. Owings was a communicant of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered Wednesday.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Owings is survived by a son, Michael Owings of Warrenton, Va.; a daughter, Melissa Owings Wilson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Raymond Owings of Fairfax, Va., and James Owings of Arlington, Texas; and three grandchildren.
