Yolanda R. Carr, a Baltimore County cosmetologist and owner of Le Salon De Beaute, was killed March 2 in an automobile accident in Pikesville. She was 38.
Mrs. Carr was in a parking lot in the 100 block of Old Court Road when she apparently put her vehicle in reverse, backed up a hill, and struck several property signs and vehicles.
Her car door was open, and Mrs. Carr was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Baltimore County police said the accident remains under investigation.
Yolanda Rozetta Brown, the daughter of a steelworker and a homemaker, was born in Baltimore. She was a 1991 graduate of Franklin High School.
She was a 1992 graduate of the Gordon Phillips Beauty School and received her professional license that year. She completed her apprenticeship at Salconi & Co. where she became the lead hair stylist.
In 2007, she realized a lifelong dream when she opened Le Salon De Beaute on Old Court Road in Pikesville, which earned two awards from Baltimore magazine in 2008.
Mrs. Carr's charitable interests included the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Dorothy Friedman Caplan Guild, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Jewish Caring Network and Garrison Forest School.
The Pikesville resident was a founding member of More Than Conquers Worship Center in Edgewood, where she was active in the married-couples ministry. She also was a greeter at the church and worked in the children's ministry.
Services were Wednesday.
Surviving are her husband of 12 years, Duane Carr, who is a business development officer at M&T Bank; two sons, Colin Carr, 9, and Ethan Carr, 7, both students at Winand Elementary School; her mother, Rosie Mae Brown of Reisterstown; four brothers, Tony Brown and Zeno Brown, both of Reisterstown, Tremont Brown of Owings Mills and Salvatore Brown of Pennsylvania; and a sister, Marthelegin Brown of Baltimore.
