Glenn D. Hansel, steel firm accountant

Glenn D. Hansel, a retired steel company accountant and avid golfer, died Tuesday of cancer at Manor Care Rosedale. The longtime Eastpoint resident was 80.

Mr. Hansel, the son of a steelworker and a homemaker, was born and raised in Frostburg. He was a 1948 graduate of Beall High School.

Mr. Hansel worked as an accountant for Eastern Stainless Steel Co. for 34 years until retiring in 1984. He helped establish the East Baltimore company's credit union and remained on its board until recently.

Mr. Hansel, who enjoyed playing golf at Clifton Park and Rocky Point, organized The Bayview Hackers and The Bowlers, two golf clubs.

"He enjoyed using his computer and keeping track of his golfing buddies' handicaps even when he couldn't play anymore," said a niece, Joy Biggs of Baltimore.

Mr. Hansel looked forward to the annual Hansel family reunion that was held in Frostburg, his niece said.

"He was a kind and generous man who never missed a family affair," she said.

Mr. Hansel also enjoyed going to casinos.

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave.

Also surviving are several other nieces and nephews.
