Ruby F. Shubkagle, Morgan State educator, dies

Ruby Friese Shubkagle, a retired Morgan State University educator whose teaching career spanned more than 50 years, died Nov. 3 in her sleep at College Manor in Lutherville. She was 97.

Dr. Shubkagle was born and raised in Westminster, where she graduated from Westminster High School in 1931.

She earned a degree from what was then the Towson State Normal School and earned a master's degree from the Johns Hopkins University.

She earned another master's degree and her Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.

An English teacher, Dr. Shubkagle began teaching in Carroll County public schools and for years taught at U.S. military bases in the Far East, North Africa, Europe, England and Saipan.

She taught at the University of British Columbia, Memphis State University, Towson University and Morgan State University, from which she retired in 1978.

Dr. Shubkagle, who had lived in Towson, was a world traveler and enjoyed spending time with her family.

Services were private.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
