Sister Agnes Miriam Hradsky, a retired teacher and member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame for 61 years, died of pneumonia Nov. 3 at Maria Health Care Center, her order's motherhouse in Woodbrook. She was 95.
Agnes Beatrice Hradsky was born in Baltimore to Czechoslovakian parents who had arrived in the United States during their teens. She grew up on Collington Avenue and attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School, taught by the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
In 1928 she graduated from grammar school with perfect attendance and went on to the Institute of Notre Dame. In 1932, she graduated from high school, again with a perfect attendance record, and secured a job sorting and wrapping labels for the National Color and Printing Co. at Monument and Ensor streets in Oldtown.
In August 1946, she entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame and received the name Agnes Miriam. She made her first vows in 1949.
Sister Miriam taught at St. Michael School in Baltimore in the late 1940s before spending eight years with elementary schools in Philadelphia and Keyser, W.Va. In 1957, she returned to Maryland to teach primary grades at St. Mary Grade School in Annapolis. She later resumed teaching at St. Michael in East Baltimore and in 1970, Sister Miriam began a 21-year stay with Our Lady of Fatima School in the Bayview section of Southeast Baltimore.
There she taught elementary grades until 1986, when she retired from teaching.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday at the Villa Assumpta Chapel at Bellona Avenue and Charles Street.
Sister Miriam is survived by several cousins.
