Martin "Marty" Fischer, an avid golfer and well-known local drummer, died Sunday of complications from throat cancer at Gilchrest Hospice in Towson. The Dundalk resident was 66.

Mr. Fischer, the son of a Bethlehem Steel employee and a homemaker, was born in 1944 in Dundalk.

After graduating from Dundalk High School in 1962, he began work at the old Maryland Shipbuilding and Drydock in South Baltimore.

Mr. Fischer also worked at the Johns Hopkins University's oceanographic ship before taking a job as a machinist with the city wastewater treatment plant.

He retired from the position in 2005.

Mr. Fischer was a skilled drummer who played in many local bands, including Penn Lucy, the Delmonicos, Bob Brady & the Con Chords and with Bruce Westcott.

While with Penn Lucy, he opened for The Who in the early '70s at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

He was also inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame in 2005 for his drumming accomplishments.

Mr. Fischer was an avid golfer and spent much of his retirement enjoying the sport and playing in several competitions.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave., Dundalk.

Mr. Fischer is survived by two brothers, Earnest Fischer of Essex and James Fischer of Dundalk.
