Nathaniel duBois "Randy" Arnot Jr., a Baltimore financial adviser and volunteer, died Aug. 6 of a heart attack at his summer home in upstate New York's Thousand Islands. He was 66.
Mr. Arnot was at his longtime vacation home in Wellesley Island, N.Y., when stricken.
Mr. Arnot, the son of a maritime joiner and a homemaker, was born in Baltimore and raised in Roland Park.
He was a 1962 graduate of St. Paul's School and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1966 from the University of Denver.
Mr. Arnot served as a medic in the Army's Special Forces before becoming a stockbroker in the late 1960s with Loeb Rhoades in Rochester, N.Y.
He later owned and operated Walter's Meat Co. in Erie, Pa., and the Bark Grill Restaurant in Westfield, N.Y., before returning in 1983 to Baltimore when he became a trust officer at Mercantile Safe Deposit & Trust Co.
Mr. Arnot later became a financial adviser at Wheatfirst Securities and, for the last 15 years, at Chapin Davis in Cross Keys.
Mr. Arnot was a hospice volunteer in Baltimore and in Watertown, N.Y, and also volunteered in the Bridges program for inner-city students sponsored by St. Paul's School.
"He was a spiritual man who devoted himself to the service of others," said a daughter, Genie Arnot Titus, who lives in the city's Lake Walker neighborhood.
Mr. Arnot enjoyed boating and playing bridge and gin rummy. He also wrote "Toofer," a fictional autobiography under the pen name of Frank V. Broker.
He was a member of the Maryland Club, Hamilton Street Club, and the Society of Ark and Dove. He was also a member of the New York Yacht Club, Clayton Yacht Club, Grenadier Island Country Club and Black River Valley Club.
Mr. Arnot was a longtime member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 232 St. Thomas Lane, Garrison, where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Also surviving are his wife of 45 years, the former Mary Hannah Sands; two sons, Nathaniel duBois Arnot III of Roland Park and John S. Arnot of Clayton, N.Y.; another daughter, Rachel Arnot Rockwell of Stevenson; and a brother, Oden Bowie Arnot of Mitchellville.
