Ernest K. Breeden dies at age 78

Ernest Kirk Breeden, a retired Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. investigator, died July 9 of heart failure at Howard County General Hospital. He was 78.

Mr. Breeden was born and raised in Fallston. He was a 1948 graduate of Bel Air High School and served in the Army until 1956.

He began his BGE career as a meter reader in 1957 and eventually was promoted to a senior investigator. He retired in 1987.

Mr. Breeden, who had lived in Ellicott City and in West Friendship since 1986, was an avid golfer and bowler. He was a senior Olympian and in 2005 scored a hole-in-one at the Hamptons Golf Course in Auburndale, Fla.

He was also a lifelong Orioles fan and was a past president of the Ellicott City Lions Club.

Since 1996, he had spent winters at The Hamptons retirement community in Auburndale.

He was a member of Rockland United Methodist Church.

Services were held Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Sykesville.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Eleanor Moxley; three sons, Steven Breeden of Sykesville, Keith Breeden of Middletown and Kevin Breeden of Casanova, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
