Michael J. Wilt, an insurance man and avid sports fan, died July 4 of a cardiac arrest at Northwest Hospital Center. He was 40.
Mr. Wilt was born in Meriden, Conn., and raised in Norwich, N.Y., where he graduated in 1988 from Norwich High School.
He earned a degree in education in 1992 from the State University of New York at Potsdam. For the past 12 years, Mr. Wilt had been employed in insurance sales for Aegon NV, the Dutch insurance company whose North American headquarters is in Baltimore.
The longtime Elkridge resident was an avid New York Yankees and New York Jets fan. He also was a follower of the University of Connecticut basketball team, said his wife of a year-and-a-half, the former Mandi Boykin.
Mr. Wilt also enjoyed participating in fantasy football and baseball leagues.
"He made everyone laugh with his quirky sense of humor," his wife said.
Services were held Saturday at Howell Funeral Home, 10220 Guilford Road, Jessup.
Also surviving are his mother, Carol Tessmer Wilt of Norwich; four sisters, Christina Wilt of Redvale, Colo., Tricia Bates of Winchester, Ky., Renee Furman of Little River, S.C., and Melissa Wilt of Norwich; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
