Turpin found dead at home

Mel Turpin, former NBA player and All-American Kentucky center, has died. Turpin was 49.

Police and the coroner were called to his North Lexington, Ky., house Thursday afternoon on a personal injury call. They found Turpin dead.

Coroner Gary Ginn said Turpin, who played for the Cavaliers in the late 1980s, had committed suicide but would not say how.

Celtics general manager Danny Ainge said he expects to sign free-agent center Jermaine O'Neal to fill in while center Kendrick Perkins recovers from knee surgery.

•Reports have forward David Lee going to the Warriors in a sign-and-trade with the Knicks worth $80 million over six years, according to agent Mark Bartelstein. The deal will send Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf and Kelenna Azubuike among others to New York. … Center Brendan Haywood agreed to a $55 million, six-year contract with the Mavericks. … The Nets reached an agreement in principle on a five-year, $35 million with free-agent forward Travis Outlaw, according to the AP.
