David Allan Stevens dies at age 43

David Allan Stevens, an electrical engineer and sports fan, died Sunday of pancreatic cancer at his Sykesville home. He was 43.

Mr. Stevens, the son of a career naval officer and a homemaker, was born in Portsmouth, Va., and spent his early years abroad.

His family later settled in Columbia, where he graduated in 1985 from Hammond High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1990 from Pennsylvania State University.

Mr. Stevens, a professional engineer, began his career with Whitman, Requardt & Associates. In 2008, he joined the firm of A.H.A. Consulting Engineers Inc. in Hanover.

Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he retired on a medical disability last year.

Mr. Stevens was an active member of Bridgeway Community Church, a nondenominational multicultural church in Columbia, where he was a member of the choir.

He was an avid Penn State and Washington Redskins football fan.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at his church, 9189 Red Branch Road.

Surviving are his wife of 19 years, the former Amy Diane Miller; a daughter, Abigail Cynthia Stevens, 10; his parents, Wynne Allan Stevens of Port Ludlow, Wash., and Pamela Compson Stevens of Columbia; two brothers, Andrew Stevens of Boulder, Colo., and Allan Stevens of Raleigh, N.C.; and a sister, Katherine Barnett of Columbia.
