It's only Monday, but already you know that the week will end in fireworks. That's because the Fourth of July is this weekend, promising just enough sizzle to get you to Friday. Then it's off to the beach or the lake — no excuses necessary — to get your spark on. After all, it's a holiday.
The plan: Ocean City is having two fireworks events, one downtown right on the beach where you can relax with your toes in the sand and one uptown at Northside Park. Both will feature live music: Dr. K's Motown Review downtown and Rick K & the Allnighters uptown.
If you prefer fire on the mountain instead of smoke on the water, head out to Deep Creek Lake in Western Maryland for a fireworks spectacular. Have a boat? Take it to McHenry Cove for the best views on fireworks. No boat? Lie out on a blanket, or relax in a lawn chair along Deep Creek Drive for an equally wonderful view.
The details: The Ocean City events will be held simultaneously on Sunday at North Division Street and the beach and at Northside Park on 127th Street. Concerts begin at 8 p.m., with the fireworks following at 9:30 p.m. Free. Go to ococean.com.
At Deep Creek Lake, Fire on the Mountain Fireworks will be launched from the top of Bear Claw Tubing Park at the Wisp Resort, 296 Marsh Hill Road, in McHenry. Fireworks begin at dusk. Free. Go to visitdeepcreek.com.
