A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday for Thomas J. Wilcox, a former Morgan State University professor, at the Morgan Interfaith Center, 1700 E. Cold Spring Lane.

Mr. Wilcox, who was 66, died of heart failure June 4 at his 25th Street home.

Mr. Wilcox, who was born in Baltimore, was orphaned at birth. He was raised in foster homes and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1962.

After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He enrolled at what was then Morgan State College in 1968 and earned a bachelor's degree in English in 1972.

Mr. Wilcox taught in Baltimore County public schools before joining the Morgan faculty in 1986. He taught business education and writing at Morgan's Academic Development Center.

He suffered his first heart attack in the early 1990s and stepped down from teaching in 1993, according to university officials.

Mr. Wilcox maintained an interest in religion, politics and current events, and was an active member of Sharp Street Memorial United Methodist Church.

He has no immediate survivors.
