Wayne A. Dorman dies at age 56

Wayne Allen Dorman, a longtime letter carrier and outdoorsman, died Monday of renal failure at the Anneslie home of his sister-in-law. He was 56.

Born and raised in Joppa, Mr. Dorman was a 1971 graduate of Edgewood High School. After serving in the Air Force, he went to work in 1979 for the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier.

Mr. Dorman worked out of the Parkville post office and at the time of his death was assigned to Oak Crest Village retirement community on Walther Boulevard.

The Hamilton resident was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the sport at Loch Raven Reservoir.

"He taught me and my sister how to fish. We would spend all day on the water in the hot sun and have a very quiet lunch. We dare not scare the fish away," said a daughter, Stephanie L. Dorman, who lives in Nottingham.

Mr. Dorman also enjoyed crabbing, playing in pickup basketball games and watching football on TV. He also liked vacationing at Deep Creek Lake.

"He was charming and lovely, and would lend a helping hand whenever needed," his daughter said.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, 1050 York Road.

Also surviving are his wife of 31 years, the former Darlene Daniels; another daughter, Erika D. Berg of Nottingham; three brothers, Augustus Dorman and Lamont Dorman, both of Joppa, and James Dorman Jr. of Baltimore; two sisters, Charlotte Dorman of Joppa and Deborah Jackson of Richmond, Va.; and a granddaughter.
