Terps assistant named Towson gymnastics coach
Former Maryland assistant Vicki Chliszczyk was named head gymnastics coach at Towson, the school announced Tuesday. Chliszczyk (pronounced Cull–liss-chick) replaces Dick Filbert, who retired in March after leading the Tigers to 491 victories and 14 conferences titles in 28 years as coach. Chliszczyk, who served as an assistant for five years at Maryland, was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League last year after helping guide the Terrapins to a second straight NCAA Southeast regional appearance.
St. Mary's: Karisa Carroll, a women's soccer and lacrosse standout, was named the Capital Athletic Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Palace Baltimore knocked out of Hunt Cup after late goal
Crystal Palace Baltimore fell to the host Richmond Kickers, 1-0, in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after Matthew Delicate took a pass from Stephen Nsereko and slipped the ball past goalkeeper Evan Bush in the 119th minute. Richmond will host Real Maryland FC on Tuesday in a second-round match.

IronBirds open season Friday night against Hudson Valley
The Aberdeen IronBirds open their short-season Single-A New York-Penn League season Friday night at Ripken Stadium with a three-game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
