Brendan Timothy Sullivan, a college student who enjoyed sports and music, died Monday of a cardiac arrest at his Marriottsville home. He was 19.
Mr. Sullivan was born in Silver Spring and spent his early years in Hyattsville before moving to Marriottsville in 1999.
He was a 2008 graduate of West Nottingham Academy in Colora, where the 6-foot-9-inch player was the varsity basketball team's center. His athletic prowess earned him the school's Best Male Athlete Award.
At the time of his death, Mr. Sullivan was studying business at Howard Community College and the University of Phoenix.
He also worked part time for his father's Annapolis Junction aerospace engineering design firm. "He collected wind tunnel data on our projects from the University of Maryland wind tunnel in College Park," John Sullivan said.
Mr. Sullivan enjoyed playing the bassoon and drawing. "He was very creative and talented," his father said.
Mr. Sullivan also enjoyed snowboarding, skiing, water skiing and boating.
"There wasn't much that he couldn't … do," his father said. "He had lots of friends and was a very kind person. I was proud to have him as my son."
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Roman Catholic Church of the Resurrection, 3175 Paulskirk Drive, Ellicott City.
Also surviving is his mother, Marianne K. Sullivan of Marriottsville; a brother, Collin R. Sullivan, 16, of Marriottsville; his paternal grandparents, Albert and Betty Sullivan of Cobb Island; his maternal grandparents, Jim and Dena Kilgallen of Rockville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
