Anne Arundel to revitalize Brooklyn Park

Anne Arundel County officials have begun an initiative to help revitalize Brooklyn Park.

County Executive John R. Leopold has formed an interagency Revitaliation Action Plan Committee charged with organizing a comprehensive plan to improve residential and commercial areas of the nothern Anne Arundel community.

The Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. and the county Department of Planning and Zoning will lead the effort to spur economic development, facilitate physical impovements, renew community involvement and enhance the role of the Chesapeake Arts Center.

"The Brooklyn Park revitalization effort is a county priority because it will create business, provide retail alternatives for existing and future residents, address the shortage of workforce housing in Anne Arundel County, and it will ultimately grow the county tax base," Leopold said.

The committee plans to take recommendations from the Brooklyn Park Small Area Plan, the Brooklyn Park Urban Design Study and the Broooklyn Park Market Study.

Brooklyn Park has been designated as one of the county's Revitalization Districts, a Maryland Neighborhood Business Development Area and a Maryland Community Legacy Area.
