Edward W. Lister Jr., a retired Legg Mason Wood Walker official who had been vice president of public finance and also served as a longtime volunteer, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster. He was 69.
The son of a Bethlehem Steel Corp. steelworker and a homemaker, he was born in Baltimore and raised near Patterson Park.
He was a 1958 graduate of St. John Catholic School in Westminster and earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1963 from Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg.
Mr. Lister served in the Maryland Air National Guard from 1963 to 1971, when he was appointed executive director of the Maryland Health and Higher Education Facilities Authority by Gov. Marvin Mandel.
From 1983 until retiring in 2003, Mr. Lister was vice president of public finance for Legg Mason Wood Walker.
In his retirement, Mr. Lister, who had lived in Westminster for nearly 40 years, served as chairman of the board of Carroll Lutheran Village and Carroll Hospice while serving on several committees at Carroll Hospital Center.
He was a lifelong Colts, Orioles and Ravens fan and enjoyed taking beach vacations.
Mr. Lister was a communicant of St. John Roman Catholic Church, 43 Monroe St., Westminster, where a memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, the former Anne Adams; a son, Edward W. Lister III of Westminster; three daughters, Jennifer Carder of Finksburg, Cynthia Wisniewski of Hampstead and Elizabeth Fahey of Hanover, Pa.; his mother, Anna Panzer Lister of Westminster; two sisters, Phyllis Kreimer of Taneytown and Carol Holbrook of Westminster; and 11 grandchildren.
