Fifty years ago Baltimoreans endured four days of heat that remain on the city's record books. Record highs of 94 degrees on April 23 and 25, 1960 still stand, as does the high of 93 degrees on the 24th. The 94-degree readings remain the hottest for an April day in Baltimore. Arsonists took advantage of heat, wind and dry woods. Wildfires consumed hundreds of acres in Arundel, injured several fire fighters and destroyed a volunteer company's engine and Jeep.
