March is gone, and the numbers are in. On average, March 2010 was 4.8 degrees warmer than the long-term norm for Baltimore. It tied with 2000 as the 13th- warmest March on record. The last time we saw a milder one was in 1977. The weather probably saved you money; heating-degree days were 22 percent below average. Only five dates saw lows below freezing, the fewest in March since 1973. We started out dry but surged ahead with heavy rains at midmonth, ending with a 1.6-inch surplus.
