Sadie B. Wilson, a retired Social Security Administration claims examiner, died of congestive heart failure Saturday at Seasons Hospice at Northwest Hospital Center. The Northwest Baltimore resident was 91.

Born Sadie Elizabeth Burrell in Gloucester, Va., she moved to Baltimore with her family in the late 1930s. She was a graduate of the old Cortez Peters Business School on Eutaw Place.

She joined the Social Security Administration and remained for 34 years. Her first work was at the Candler Building on Pratt Street, where she assisted claimants in the Brown Lung Disease Program.

"She trained legions of younger workers and always incorporated a model of work ethics in them," said her daughter, JEan Wilson Richie of Baltimore. "Her concern was that people take their responsibilities seriously."

She enjoyed baseball, particularly attending Orioles games, and traveled to four continents. She entertained family and friends with her creamed chicken and pound cakes.

She was a treasurer of the Baltimore Conference Missionary Society of the African Methodist Episcopal Church for 11 years.

She also worked with Church Women United and the Minister's Spouses Organization.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bethel African American Episcopal Church, 1300 Druid Hill Ave., where she was a member.

In addition to her daughter, survivors include another daughter, Joan Wilson Collins of Waldorf; a sister, Thelma B. Whalen of Randallstown; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Her husband of 58 years, John Preston Wilson, died in 2002.
