Event postponements, cancellations, closings


A
• The Annapolis Maritime Museum's Winter Maritime Seminar scheduled for Thursday, "Smart" Buoys and the Captain John Smith Trail, has been postponed until Thursday, April 1.

• The Annapolis Police Department's Neighborhood Watch block captain training program scheduled for the evening of Feb. 9 is canceled.

Anne Arundel Community College is rescheduling its Feb. 6, Black History Month presentation, "The Boss: Blue Angels Capt. Donnie Cochran." The free presentation will now take place Saturday, Feb. 13.

• The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works has suspended curbside recycling and trash pickup for Feb. 9.



B • Babe's Birthday Bash at the Babe Ruth Museum, postponed from Friday to Feb. 12. Additionally, the Babe Ruth Museum has moved activities from the Babe Ruth Birthplace on Saturday to Feb. 13. On that day, the museum will show rare Babe Ruth movies at the birthplace from noon until closing in honor of Ruth's birthday.

BaltimoreACTS has postponed "Rock to Rebuild," the Feb. 11 Haiti benefit concert at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The event will be rescheduled for March.

The Baltimore Bridal Show scheduled for Feb. 6-7, at The Baltimore Convention Center, has been rescheduled for Feb. 13-14.

The Baltimore's Child Camp and Summer Programs fair scheduled for Feb. 6 at the Glenwood Community Center in Howard County has been canceled. Another camp fair will be held Feb. 28 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Timonium.

• Trash and recycling collections in Baltimore City are canceled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

• This week's weather has altered the schedule of meetings of the Board of Education of Baltimore County. Tuesday's board meeting has been rescheduled for Feb. 16, and a public hearing on proposed boundary lines for West Towson Elementary School that had been scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 24 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 10. The March 10 public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Loch Raven High School, at 1212 Cowpens Road in Towson.

The Baltimore Museum of Art will be closed on Feb. 10. The Baltimore Museum of Art African American History Month Family Day (originally scheduled for Feb. 7) has been postponed until Feb. 28.

• Baltimore County's 2010 Black Saga Competition scheduled for Feb. 6 has been rescheduled to its snow date of Feb. 13, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at New Town High School, 4931 New Town Blvd., Owings Mills.

Carroll County public schools will be closed Wednesday. School offices and the central office will be closed. The Board of Education meeting is canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Center Stage has cancelled the Feb. 10 performance of "Let There Be Love." There is information on ticket exchanges available at www.centerstage.org.

The Contemporary Museum will be closed Feb. 10. The museum has postponed its Feb. 11 lecture with Art in American editor Richard Vine. A new date has not been set.

•The Community College of Baltimore County President's Distinguished African-American Lecture Series event, featuring Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon and originally scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 11, has been postponed. A new date for the lecture will be determined and announced at a later time.

• At the Creative Alliance, the Amanda Burnham opening reception is postponed to Feb. 20. "60 Writers/60 Places" premiere is postponed to Feb. 21. Special FX Makeup Workshop is postponed to Feb. 13. Bob Marley's Birthday -- Soul Shakedown Party is postponed to Feb. 19.

E • The Everyman Theater has canceled its Feb. 10 performance of "Two Rooms."


F • Frostburg State: Wednesday men's and women's games at Franciscan postponed until Thursday. The women start at 6 p.m. Men start at 8 p.m.

Harford Community College's You Can Afford College event has been rescheduled to Feb 13.

The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School's Leaders+Legends event, scheduled for Feb. 11, is canceled.

The Johns Hopkins Carey Business School's William M. and Katherine B. Ginder Lecture, scheduled for Feb. 10, will be postponed. For information on the rescheduled date, see http://www.carey.jhu.edu/ginder

• All branches of Howard County Library will close at 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 9.

L • Light rail service update for Tuesday: Between Hunt Valley and North Avenue, trains will operate every 40 minutes. Riders continuing south of North Avenue must transfer at North Avenue. Between North Avenue and Camden Yards, trains will operate every 40 minutes. Riders continuing north or south must transfer at North Avenue or Camden Station. Between Camden Yards and North Linthicum, trains will operate every 40 minutes. Due to a snow plow hitting a power line near the airport there is no service south of North Linthicum to Cromwell Station or BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. Shuttle bus service is available from North Linthicum. There is no service to Penn Station. The closest light rail station is University of Baltimore/Mt. Royal. All stations are open, but parking lots, sidewalks, stairs, ramps and platforms may be slippery or partially blocked by snow.

• Live racing at Laurel Park is canceled for Wednesday and Thursday. Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course will be open for simulcasting Tuesday.

• "The Science of Love: An Evening with Dr. Helen Fisher" set for Feb. 11 at the Maryland Science Center has been postponed. A new date has not been set.


N • The National Aquarium in Baltimore will be closed on Feb. 9.

R • REP Stage in Columbia canceled its 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. shows Wednesday.


S • St. Mary's College: Tuesday's women's and men's basketball doubleheader at Mary Washington has been rescheduled for Sunday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.

V • All outpatient clinic appointments throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System are being canceled on Wednesday, Feb. 10, due to the impending snowstorm and the concern for patient safety. The outpatient clinic appointments being canceled are located at the Baltimore and Perry Point VA Medical Centers; the Loch Raven VA Community Living & Rehabilitation Center; and the Cambridge, Fort Howard, Glen Burnie, Loch Raven and Pocomoke City VA Outpatient Clinics.

All in-patient services throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System and the Emergency Room at the Baltimore VA Medical Center will remain operational. Veterans who need medical advice or who have questions about their medications can call the VA Maryland Health Care System's Telephone Care Line 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by dialing 1-800-865-2441.


W • The Walters Art Museum will be closed on Feb. 10. Also, the Members Opening Event and Donor Dinner has been postponed until February 26.

Washington Capitals Watch Party scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the ESPN Zone is canceled.
