January is Baltimore's coldest and snowiest month on average. But February has delivered the city's biggest snowstorm (28.2 inches in 2003); its snowiest month ever (40.5 inches in 2003); and eight of our 20 biggest snowstorms. (January claims five.) Also, two of the five dates on which the mercury reached minus-7 degrees (our lowest low) were in February (in 1934 and 1899). From Feb. 9 to 13, 1899, the city recorded record-low maximums of just 3 to 11 degrees. All five daily records still stand.
