UMBC WINS ON SHOT WITH :01 LEFT

Robbie Jackson hit a jumper with one second remaining, and the visiting UMBC men's basketball team ended an 11-game losing streak with a 56-55 win over Maine on Saturday.

Chauncey Gilliam (Hammond) and Brian Neller each scored 12 points, and Adrian Satchell added 10 for the Retrievers (2-20, 1-7 America East).

Trailing 51-45 with 4:14 to play, Maine (14-7, 6-2 ) tied the score at 51 with 2:53 remaining on two 3-pointers by Gerald McLemore. The Black Bears fell behind 54-51 before Junior Bernal hit a layup for a 55-54 lead with 1:12 remaining.

Both teams missed scoring chances before Jackson hit the game-winner after a rebound off a missed free throw.

With the loss, the Black Bears fell out of sole possession of first place in the conference and saw a six-game winning streak broken.

Towson 58, North Carolina-Wilmington 53: : Josh Thornton scored 13 points as the visiting Tigers (5-16, 2-9 Colonial Athletic Association) ended a four-game losing streak .

Calvin Lee had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Towson, which had lost eight of its previous nine games.

The score was tied seven times before the Tigers took the lead for good at 50-48 on a jumper by Thornton with 4:52 to play.

John Fields had 13 points and 21 rebounds for the Seahawks (7-15, 3-8), who have lost seven of their past eight games.

Navy 100, Colgate 91: : Jordan Sugars had a game-high 34 points and Chris Harris scored 25 as the host Midshipmen (10-12, 4-3 Patriot League) beat the Red Raiders (6-15, 2-5).

Navy took the lead, 6-5, at the 17:34 mark of the first half and never relinquished it.

Mount St. Mary's 61, Quinnipiac 56:: Shawn Atupem scored 16 points as the host Mountaineers (7-14, 4-6 Northeast Conference) tamed the Bobcats (14-7, 8-2).

Jean Cajou added 11 points for the Mount, which has won two straight for the first time since November.

Justin Rutty finished with 18 points and 15 rebounds for Quinnipiac.

UMES 67, Howard 66: : Hillary Haley scored 33 points, including two free throws with 28 seconds left, as the host Hawks (6-14, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) edged the Bison (6-16, 5-3).

Haley's free throws gave UMES a 67-60 lead. Howard made it close as Curtis White hit a 3-pointer with 13 seconds left and another with four seconds remaining, but the Bison were unable to get the ball again.

Women

Mount St. Mary's 86, Quinnipiac 57: : Mary Dunn scored 19 points and Hassanah Oliver had a career-high 12 assists to give third-year head coach Bryan Whitten his 250th career victory for the host Mount (8-12, 4-6 Northeast Conference).

Courtney Kaminski paced the Bobcats (9-12, 4-6) with 28 points, 24 in the first half, and 11 rebounds.

Colgate 56, Navy 54: : Jhazmine Lynch scored on a scooping layup with 14.5 seconds left to break a tie and score what would prove to be the game-winner for the host Raiders (7-14, 2-5 Patriot League).

Kristen Bowen had a game-high 25 points for the Mids (11-11, 3-4).

Fairfield 63, Loyola 58: : The host Greyhounds (9-11, 4-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) rallied late in the second half but fell short to the Stags (10-10, 4-5).

Loyola's Kate Sheahin made a layup to tie the score at 51 with 3:42 left, but the Greyhounds got no closer. Miriam McKenzie (Oakland Mills) and Erica DiClemente each had 13 points for the Greyhounds. Desiree Pina had 16 for the Stags.

Howard 55, UMES 51: : Saadia Doyle had a game-high 32 points to power the visiting Bison (9-10, 5-3 MEAC) past the Hawks (7-10, 4-3).

UMES led 21-18 at the half. Howard battled back in the second half, taking the lead for good with 5:05 left on a jumper by Doyle.
