Chocolate & Champagne affair for charity

The Hospice of the Chesapeake Auxiliary will host the Chocolate & Champagne Affair, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel. The affair will features cakes, cookies and ice cream from area restaurants and vendors. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door, with proceeds benefiting Hospice of the Chesapeake. Wet season testing begins

The Department of Health's division of environmental health is preparing to start annual wet season site evaluations and percolation tests. Applications for mound sewage disposal systems must be received by Monday. All other applications must be received and scheduled by April 1. To apply for percolation tests, contact the Permit Application Center, 2664 Riva Road, or call environmental health at 410-222-7193. Continuing services

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health offers:

* WIC supplemental nutrition program provides free nutritious foods, nutrition education, breast-feeding support and resource referrals. To qualify, county residents must meet income guidelines. Call 410-222-6797 or 410-222-0139 (Spanish).

* Substance abuse treatment services are available through Community Treatment Services. Call 410-222-0117. Methadone and Suboxone maintenance services are available through the Department of Health's adult addictions clinic at 410-222-0100.

* Prescription discount program is available to all county residents. For more information or to apply, call 410-222-4531 and mention Group #586 or go to scriptsave.com and log in using Group #586.

Senior insurance: A senior health insurance program (SHIP) will be offered the first Tuesday of every month at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road, Arnold. Call 410-222-1922 for appointment.

Diabetes prevention: Baltimore Washington Medical Center offers classes in diabetes prevention at the Joslin Diabetes Center, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 119. Classes will be held:

* 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and March 3, April 7, May 5 and June 2.

* 9 a.m to 10 a.m. Feb. 12, April 9 and June 11.

* 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 22 and May 24.

Classes are recommended for those interested in learning more about how eating healthfully and being more active can affect overall health and wellness. Cost is $25 per class. To register, call the Joslin center at 410-787-4940.

Screenings

* Baltimore Washington Medical Center will offer free screenings at its Arundel Mills Outreach Center, between Dave and Buster's and mall entrance No. 4, Feb. 11 and 25, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., podiatrist Jenny Nguyen will offer foot screenings and Amedisys Home Health will offer blood pressure screenings 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. TuesdayFeb. 2 and Feb. 16.

* Blood pressure screening 8:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 10 and Feb. 24 at Harundale Presbyterian Church, Eastway and Guilford Road.

Support groups

Diabetes: Joslin Diabetes Center at Baltimore Washington Medical Center will meet 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 17 in the center, 300 Hospital Drive, Suite 223.

Caregivers : The National Family Caregivers Support program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities will host a meeting 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 16 in the department's office on the fourth floor, 2666 Riva Road.

Support groups: sponsored by the Baltimore Washington Medical Center will be held in the Tate Center, 305 Hospital Drive. For additional information call 410-787-4367. The breast cancer education and support program will be held 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Feb. 16. Man-to-man prostrate cancer support group, directed by Dr. Ed Zagula, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 and the stroke support group will meet 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Padussis conference center.
