Police identify man fatally stabbed on west side

City police have identified a man who was found fatally stabbed Thursday evening outside a vehicle in West Baltimore. Police identified the victim as Kevin Davis, 31, of the 1000 block of Leadenhall St. Officers responding to a report of a cutting about 5:15 p.m. found him outside a parked 1996 Ford Econoline van. Police said there were no witnesses and detectives knew of no motive. Davis appeared to have a long criminal record, including a first-degree murder charge from 2005 that was dropped by prosecutors. Davis was the 12th homicide victim of the year in Baltimore, which had recorded 19 at the same point last year.

Customs search at BWI finds 7 pounds of heroin

A Baltimore man returning from Ghana was arrested at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport Tuesday after nearly seven pounds of heroin was found hidden in his suitcase, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Suleiman Zakaria, 26, was randomly selected by a customs officer for a secondary examination while he was in the passenger arrivals area about 6 p.m. Officers found the heroin, worth about $430,000 wholesale, in a false bottom of his suitcase, authorities said.

Del. man, 46, charged in burglaries, shoe thefts

Police in Delaware said Friday night that they have arrested a man in a series of burglaries that occurred over the past 20 years in which thousands of pairs of men's shoes and photos of men were stolen. Walter J. Rubincon, 46, of Newark, Del., has been charged with 25 counts of burglary, 77 counts of theft and 15 counts of criminal mischief. The break in the case came after a passer-by spotted three duffel bags full of shoes in a Maryland creek near the Delaware line and reported seeing a person drive off in a yellow Mitsubishi Eclipse, authorities said.
