A man who smashed the plate-glass windows of several convenience stores last week and stole money and cigarettes is being sought by Baltimore County police. Detectives have a surveillance photo of the suspect and are asking for the public's help in identifying him.
The smash-and-grab burglaries involved four businesses, two on Jan. 18 and the others two days later. The suspect was described as between 20 and 30 years old, with a medium build.
A police statement issued Thursday said the man committed the burglaries in the early morning by breaking the stores' front glass windows. In two of the break-ins, police said, the suspect stole cigarettes, and in one of those instances also some money, but appeared not to have taken anything in the remaining two cases. The image of the suspect was captured by a camera in one of the stores, while he was inside.
The burglaries took place at Royal Farms, 601 Southwick Drive, Towson, at 2:56 a.m. on Jan. 18, when a large quantity of cigarettes was taken; High's Dairy Store, 15301 Hanover Pike, Upperco, at 1:49 a.m. on Jan. 18, although nothing was stolen; Wally's Country Store, 19200 Middletown Road, Parkton, at 4:26 a.m. on Jan. 20, when cigarettes and a money box were removed; and the Maryland Line Service Center, 21307 York Road, Parkton, at 6:58 a.m. on Jan. 20, from which nothing was missing.
Anyone with information about the crimes or the suspect is asked to call the Baltimore County Police Department at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-756-2587.
