DONALD LEE KELLER, IRS ACCOUNTANT

Donald Lee Keller, a retired IRS agent and a longtime Idlewylde resident, died Jan. 19 of cancer at his son's home in Santa Fe, N.M. He was 91.

Mr. Keller was born in Baltimore and raised in East Baltimore and Govans.

After graduating from Polytechnic Institute in 1938, he went to work as a tool maker at the old Glenn L. Martin Co. plant in Middle River.

During World War II, Mr. Keller served as an infantryman with the 95th Infantry Division and fought at the Battle of the Bulge.

After being discharged from the Army with the rank of private, Mr. Keller enrolled at the University of Baltimore and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting in 1950.

Mr. Keller worked as an IRS accountant for about 30 years before he retired in 1979.

He enjoyed reading, playing tennis and golf, and swimming. He also liked taking cruises.

"He rode his bicycle daily until the last few months of his life," said his son, Richard L. Keller of Santa Fe.

In 1998, Mr. Keller moved to Fort Myers, Fla., where he lived for a decade before moving to Santa Fe.

Mr. Keller's wife of 51 years, the former Lillian "Lee" Fennelly, died in 1994.

His partner of 10 years, Addie Mae "Tootie" Merkle, died in 2006.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Mitchell-Wiedefeld Funeral Home, 6500 York Road, Rodgers Forge.

In addition to his son, Mr. Keller is survived by three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
