Marine, 20, fatally stabbed during party in city's Northeast

1

A 20-year-old Marine from Potomac was fatally stabbed early Saturday at a college party in Northeast Baltimore, police said. The condition of a second man stabbed at the gathering is unknown. Lance Cpl. Darius Ray, who was stationed in Washington, was stabbed in the upper torso and pronounced dead at 4:58 a.m. The second unidentified male was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to police spokesman Donny Moses. The stabbings occurred at a house in the 6900 block of McClean Blvd. about 4 a.m. When police arrived, they found the two injured men. A male suspect was part of a group of "neighborhood boys" who came to the party and were soon asked to leave, according to Moses. The suspect later returned with a knife, he said. Police do not know if the second victim lived in the house. They also did not disclose what college the students hosting the party attended.

Flash-flood watch issued for this afternoon

The National Weather Service has issued a flash-flood watch from late this afternoon to Monday morning for parts of the region, including the Baltimore metro area. During that time, as much as 3 inches of rain are possible, the weather service says, creating the potential for flooding on urban roads and low-lying areas.

Baltimore County preserved 1,600 farm acres in 2009

Baltimore County preserved 1,600 agricultural acres in 2009, adding 26 properties in the farm-rich northern area to its land programs. The county has permanently safeguarded from development 55,000 acres and has reached nearly 70 percent of its 80,000-acre goal. Saving those 1,600 acres cost nearly $8.6 million in county, state and federal money. The county, which funded more than half the cost of preservation easements last year, uses an array of government programs, including the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Program, the Maryland Rural Legacy Program, the Baltimore County Rural Legacy Program, the Baltimore County Agricultural Land Preservation Program, the Maryland Greenprint Program, the Federal Farm and Ranch Protection Program, and the State Highways Viewshed Protection Program.
