Criminal charges against former Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Orlando "Zeus" Brown were dropped last week by Baltimore County prosecutors.
Brown was arrested in September and charged with breaking into his ex-wife's home in August. On Wednesday, prosecutors dropped charges of fourth-degree burglary and malicious destruction of property under $500. Brown's attorney, Andrew Alperstein, said that Brown was able to use GPS information from his cell phone to prove that he wasn't in the area when the alleged break-in took place.
"I doubt I've ever had a client who more vehemently denied his involvement in a case," Alperstein said.
Baltimore County Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Roscher did not return a phone call seeking comment. The dropped charges were first reported by the Carroll County Times.
According to court documents, Mira Brown accused her former husband of entering her home while she was away on vacation. The two have been divorced since 2004, and records show that they have recently been in court arguing over custody and child support payments.
While she was on vacation July 21 through Aug. 28, someone broke the front storm door, entered her home, tore down the basement curtains, defecated in a basement toilet and ransacked her closet, according to court documents.
She also received two text messages from Orlando Brown's phone before she returned, one of which stated that he had toured her house, the records say.
The house was for sale and in foreclosure, according to a motion to quash the warrant. A real estate agent visited the home the day before Mira Brown returned and noted some of the damage.
Alperstein said the allegations came in "the context of a very bitter custody dispute, and the allegations came to light just as his domestic attorneys were about to file some litigation." Court records show that Mira Brown filed three separate domestic violence complaints against Brown over the course of three days last September, all of which are listed as closed.
In December, the Harborview Marina and Yacht Club won a $6,000 judgment against the player, records show.
Brown, who owns a Fatburger franchise in Elkridge, ended his football career in 2006.
