SEVERN TEEN HELD IN NEW YEAR'S STABBING

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Anne Arundel County police have arrested a Severn teenager and charged him in the stabbing of a 21-year-old man at a New Year's Eve celebration at the Aloft Arundel Mills Hotel, but police said they have no suspect in a shooting that took place at about the same time there.

Rashon Tyrek Gordon, 18, of the 1700 block of Severn Tree Court was arrested Tuesday and is facing charges of attempted second-degree murder, assault and related counts, police said. He was jailed in lieu of $1.5 million bail, according to court records.

Police said they were on their way to the hotel in the 7500 block of Teague Road just after midnight New Year's Day for reports of a disturbance when they were told by fire officials at the scene that shots were fired. County fire crews had responded to a complaint of overcrowding, but the lobby area was so packed that they were unable to get inside and were outside when they heard the gunshots, according to Fire Department Division Chief Michael Cox. He said the stabbing victim approached rescue workers and was treated; within minutes, a bystander said someone had been shot in another area.

When police secured the area, the 18-year-old who was shot was treated. Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said it is not clear what, if any, connection exists between the stabbing and the shooting and asked that anyone with information about the shooting call the homicide unit at 410-222-3566.
