Annapolis Idol contestants
The Anne Arundel Conflict Resolution Center invites local artists to come to these establishments to showcase their skills and maybe become the next Annapolis Idol:

* Sharky's, 2072 Somerville Road on Jan. 18.
* Stan and Joe's, 37 West St. on Jan. 20.
* Mike's Crab House, 3030 Riva Road on Jan. 25.
* Heroes, 1 Riverview Ave. on Jan. 26.
Start time is 8 p.m. Contestants must be at least 18 by the event date and be able to perform a Top 40 mainstream pop song live to music they select.

Opera competition
Applications and CDs are being accepted for the annual Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition. All applicants must complete the online form at annapolisopera.org under auditions and vocal competition, and submit a CD. The deadline is Jan. 15.
Applicants should label the CD with name, date of birth, contact information and titles of the arias, and mail to Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, c/o Carmen Balthrop, 801 Chase St., Annapolis, MD, 21401.

Safe-driving class
Class will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 S. Villa Ave. Cost is $14. Call 410-222-1818 for more information.
Battle of the Bands
Anne Arundel County's annual high school rock band contest will be from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Jan. 16 at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, 801 Chase St., Annapolis. Bands from local high schools will compete. Proceeds benefit school music programs. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased from the bands, at Brown-Eyed Girl or East of Maui in Annapolis, Music & Arts in Severna Park or at zooptix.com. Call 410-757-8610.
Guitar lessons
The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is offering group guitar lessons and music appreciation classes for the winter/spring semester. Beginning and intermediate lessons are available for teens and adults as well as classical music appreciation classes for adults. All classes will be taught by Morgan Fiddler. The Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts is at 801 Chase St. in Annapolis.
