CHARLES ADAM MARTAK, SR. went to the Lord Friday, December 25, 2009 at his home after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Eastport, MD on January 10, 1928, graduated from Baltimore City College in 1946, and married Betty Eckart Martak on October 6, 1947 in Frederick MD. He was a resident of the Tidewater area since 1951. He was employed by American Bank Stationary from 1945 until 1957. He then became the Executive Director of the Tidewater Better Business Bureau for 17 years. His last place of employment was with Pinkerton Securities until November 2008. He was an active member of the Norfolk Rotary for over 20 years. He was a master mason with the Bayside Masonic Lodge #218 and a member of the Bayside Chapter #118 of the Eastern Star. He was an active member since 1953 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent located in the Ocean View area of Norfolk, serving as Church Educator, Lay Reader and choir member. He also served as president of both a Jaycee Chapter and the Norfolk Advertising Club. His voice was also heard as part of the group of Barbershop members called the Commodore Chorus for many years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Eckart Martak, three children; Charles Adam Martak Jr. and his wife of 40 years Darlene O. Martak of SC., Lydia Martak McBride and her husband of 39 years, Charles H. McBride of WV., and Susan Martak McCartney and her husband of 12 years, David McCartney of Virginia Beach. He has 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Memorial services are planned for Monday, January 18th at 1 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Advent which is located at 9629 Norfolk Ave. in the Ocean View area of Norfolk. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that memorial gifts can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in his memory.
