Towson defeats Navy, 56-43, gets first road win of season

A strong second half lifted visiting Towson (6-4) to its fourth straight win, 56-43 over Navy on Sunday. "I was proud of the performance today and the fact that we got our first road win," coach Joe Mathews said. "I thought that there was the possibility for letdown coming off Thursday's big win [against No. 25 Maryland], but I thought the kids responded very well, especially in the second half, to fight and gain the victory." Haliena Snowden led the Tigers with 14 points and contributed seven rebounds and three steals. Simona Petronyte scored 11 points to go along with five assists and three rebounds. Shanae Baker-Brice had 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals. Katrina Wheeler added seven rebounds. Cassie Consedine led Navy with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kristin Bowen accumulated 13 points and six rebounds. The Midshipmen were held to 28.1 percent shooting from the field.

Jones' 21 lift Salisbury men; Army-Navy TV ratings up

Devin Jones (Old Mill) matched his season high with 21 points, helping Salisbury (4-5) end a two-game losing streak with an 86-71 men's basketball victory over Maryland Bible in the consolation game of the CNU Classic at Christopher Newport. Greg Palmer added 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Mike Maczko (John Carroll) had 10 points and 10 rebounds.

College football: : CBS Sports' coverage of the Army-Navy game on Saturday earned an overnight household rating/share of 4.2/10, up 75 percent from last year's 2.4/6. This year's game had the highest rating in the metered markets in 10 years (4.9/13; 1999).

Capitals: : Washington assigned center Michael Nylander to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Nylander, 37, has played in 920 NHL games for six teams, including the Capitals, but none this season.
