D onald Gansauer writes from Canton: "A friend in Florida reports a red moondog this morning. I know ice crystals make moondogs, but red?" A "moondog" is not a craft beer, but a spot of light that forms 22 degrees to the right and/or left of the moon as bright moonlight reflects off atmospheric ice crystals. I've never seen a red one, but perhaps air pollution, or reflected light from the approaching dawn, could explain it.
