Two men seriously burned from flash fire at pit in Carroll

Two men were seriously burned Friday in a blaze at a recreational fire pit in Keymar in Carroll County. According to the Maryland fire marshal, about 20 members of the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company responded to a call in the 7500 block of Middleburg Road shortly after 8 p.m. Friday. They found three people suffering from burns from a flash fire that is believed to have been caused by poured gasoline. Police and fire officials said that five people had been sitting around the backyard fire pit. Two men were seriously burned and flown by Maryland State Police to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. A 14-year-old girl was treated for minor burns at the Carroll Hospital Center. According to state police spokesman Greg Shipley, a quantity of suspected narcotics was also found. The incident remains under investigation.

State trooper hit by car during arrest in Ocean City

Maryland State Police arrested an Ocean Pines man Friday night after a state police trooper was struck with a car outside a retail business in the 9600 block of Stephen Decatur Highway. State police spokesman Greg Shipley said that Trooper Jason Grozier, 27, was treated and released from Atlantic General Hospital. Charged with assault and reckless endangerment was Waldon I. Remington III of Ocean Pines, who police say fled the scene but was later arrested. Police said the trooper was responding to a call about an unruly party and was hit by Remington's white Acura while attempting to make an arrest. Remington is being held at the Worcester County Detention Center.

16-year-old boy stabbed near Lake Clifton campus

A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the side and arm near Lake Clifton school campus on St. Lo Drive about 9:40 p.m. Saturday, said Baltimore police spokesman Agent Donny Moses. The boy was taken to Johns Hopkins Children's Hospital, Moses said. Detectives were investigating Saturday night and no other details were immediately available. The school campus is the site of two schools: Doris M. Johnson and Heritage highs.

13 residents escape uninjured from city fire

Baltimore City firefighters put out a blaze at a Northwest Baltimore home Saturday afternoon after all 13 residents were able to escape with no injuries, according to fire spokesman Chief Kevin Cartwright. Firefighters received a call about 4 p.m. for a fire in the 3700 block of Woodbine Ave., where flames reached from the basement to the roof of the 2 1/2 -story detached home. No firefighters were injured while putting out the fire.

Incendiary device belonging to veteran rendered harmless

Anne Arundel County police reported that a person who had safety concerns brought a suspected incendiary device to the Southern District station in Edgewater on Saturday afternoon. Capt. Frederick Plitt, special operations commander, said the device belonged to a World War II veteran. It was transported into the station by a family member who expressed concerns about safety. The device was rendered harmless by fire and police officials. No charges were filed, and no names were released.
