J OSEPHINE (Jody) GRIFFITH BROWN, 88, died November 17, 2009, at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, 6701 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD, after a brief illness. She had been a resident of the Blakehurst Retirement Community, 1055 W. Joppa Road, Towson, MD, for several years. Born in rural northern VA near Leesburg, Mrs. Brown spent her early years in Hamilton and Winchester, VA. She graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, MO. Mrs. Brown was a strong believer in community service and actively participated at Trinity Episcopal Church and its Surprise Shop, Central Maryland Can Too, the Needlework Guild and Blakehurst's Healthcare Center. She and her now deceased husband John W. Brown, Jr., traveled throughout the world over a period of eight years visiting 45 countries. Mrs. Brown lived in Baltimore City and County for over 64 years. Survivors include three sons, John W. Brown III, of Essex Fells, NJ, Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Daniel G. Brown of Fairfax Station, VA, T. Walker Brown of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A memorial service for Mrs. Brown will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, December 5, at the Church of the Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, MD. The burial service will be performed at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M., in the Homewood Room at Blakehurst.
