Joseph J. Moran Jr., a former Westinghouse Electric Corp. salesman and activist, died of cancer Sunday at Joseph Richey Hospice. He was 60.

Born and raised in Scranton, Pa., Mr. Moran was a 1966 graduate of West Scranton High School.

He moved to Baltimore and earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Baltimore. He worked in sales at Westinghouse until 1979, when he retired after being injured in an accident.

Mr. Moran, who lived on St. Paul Street, was active in AIDS and animal-rights causes. He also volunteered with after-school youth programs.

He was an accomplished cook and enjoyed listening to music and visiting art galleries and museums.

Services will be held at noon Saturday at the Kearney Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Scranton.

Surviving are his mother, June Winwood Moran of Scranton; three sisters, Sheron Moran of Scranton, June M. Coyne of Southport, N.C., and Deb Peterson of Clarks Summit, Pa.; a niece; and two nephews.
