On November 5, 2009, VIVIAN ELIZABETH CASSEL, A Memorial Service will be held at 5 PM on Sunday, November 8, at Timonium United Methodist Church, 2300 Pot Spring Rd. in Timonium. Friends and family are invited to her long-time home near the church immediately following the service for food and fellowship. Born in Rio, West Virginia, on July 18, 1921, she graduated from high school in Frederick, MD, in 1937, and attended the University of Maryland. She then worked as the executive secretary to C.P. McCormick of McCormick Spices in Baltimore. In 1947 she married Douglass Cassel, who passed away in 2000 after 52 years of marriage. After raising her three children and devoting part-time to writing and editing, she served as executive assistant to the president of the Maryland Hospital Association from 1971 until her retirement in 1986. She and her husband spent their retirement years traveling the world. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sat Kirin K. Khalsa, and her sons, Greg Cassel and Douglass Cassel, Jr., as well as by her five grandchildren.
