Camp masterpiece

Artists will give classes from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday and Tuesday at the Chesapeake Children's Museum, 25 Silopanna Road in Annapolis. Works by famous artists from different eras will be discussed; included will be images, biographies and quotes. For ages 4 and older.

Gardening classes

The Anne Arundel County Master Gardeners will hold a series of free vegetable gardening classes for beginning gardeners. All classes are held at 7 p.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road in Annapolis.

"Pests and Diseases of the Vegetable Garden" will be offered Tuesday and "Harvesting and Storing Vegetables" on July 28.

Musical auditions

The Pasadena Theatre Company will hold auditions for the fall musical production of Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up, based on a novel by John R. Powers. Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Abundant Life Church, 7305 E. Furnace Branch Road in Glen Burnie. Performance dates are Sept. 26 through Oct. 11 at the Chesapeake Arts Center, 194 Hammonds Lane in Brooklyn Park.

The company is looking for people to portray nuns, priests and students from elementary to high school.

Temporary driving range

Golfers at Fort Meade can now hit balls at a new temporary driving range adjacent to McGlachlin Parade Field.

New 12-lane range takes place of the original that was removed to make way for construction earlier this year and is open for walk-on use from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Veterans are eligible to play with a copy of their DD214, which they have to bring only once to be able to play all season.

The Banneker-Douglass Museum, 84 Franklin St. in Annapolis, is operating on its summer schedule. Hours remain in effect through Sept. 6:

Historic house tours

The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society has opened the historic Benson-Hammond House and North Browse and Buy Shoppe at Aviation Boulevard and Andover Road in Linthicum for the season.

Tours are offered from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays. Group tours are given by appointment.

The house and outbuildings interpret the agricultural heritage of northern Anne Arundel County.

The Kuethe Library for Historical and Genealogical Research at 5 Crain Highway S.E., operated jointly with the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday year-round.

Day camp

The Tawes Garden in Annapolis offers a Natural Resources Club Day Camp for children ages 6 to 9 and 10 to 12 who enjoy the outdoors and are interested in nature.

Camps will be held 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and include nature crafts and activities and field trips to parks and nature centers.

Camps for ages 6 to 9 are July 27-31. Cost is $140.
