My take: It's a pretty weird team that would rather be down three runs in the ninth than up four runs in the third, but you know what they say. This is Birdland.
My take: I don't know if I'm that into it. Danica Patrick will be almost 30 by then.
News item: The Mountain West Conference, after staging a six-month campaign to overthrow the current Bowl Championship Series system, has signed the BCS agreement that will keep the current system in place until 2013.
My take: President Obama and both houses of Congress also took up the cause of trying to make college football's postseason format more equitable and inclusive, but there apparently will be no significant change in the way the sport determines its champion for at least the next four years.
Bonus take: And those are the people who are supposed to be fixing health care and Social Security.
News item: More than 65,000 tickets already have been sold for the big soccer game between AC Milan and Chelsea at M&T; Bank Stadium July 24.
My take: Can't wait. Kevin Cowherd is so excited that he wrote his past two columns with his feet.
News item: Former Mets and Phillies star Lenny Dykstra, who had built a second career as a Wall Street wizard, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, declaring assets of $50,000 and liabilities ranging between $10 million and $50 million.
My take: If you had any money with Lenny, you broke my first rule of financial management: Never invest with anybody who has tobacco juice trickling out of the side of his mouth, unless you're buying a tractor.
News item: Former Orioles reliever B.J. Ryan, who signed a five-year, $47 million free agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays 3 1/2 years ago, was released by the club Wednesday with $15 million left on that contract.
My take: The O's took some criticism for letting him get away. Now they could get him for about $200,000 - the prorated portion of the minimum major league salary.
Bonus take: Maybe that's why Andy MacPhail likes to "grow the arms and buy the bats."
News item: Kevin Millar dissed the new Yankee Stadium during a radio interview Tuesday, because the fans didn't boo him loud enough. "I like to get booed," he said.
My take: No wonder he wanted to re-sign with the Orioles last winter.
My take: I would have been concerned, too. Bartolo's not an easy guy to misplace.
News item: The Stanley Cup, the Lombardi Trophy and the World Series trophy - all held presently by teams from either Pittsburgh or Philadelphia - were put on display Tuesday in the rotunda of the Pennsylvania capitol building in Harrisburg.
My take: Don't you hate it when people live in the past like that?
News item: Thanks to a lawsuit brought by the New York Civil Liberties Union, fans will now be allowed to go to the bathroom during the playing of "God Bless America" in the seventh inning at Yankee Stadium.
My take: We're talking about Yankees fans here, so I hope they realize they're supposed to find a restroom first.
