Adenhart fund gives $5,000 to Halfway Little League

The Nick Adenhart Memorial Fund has made a donation to the Halfway Little League. The $5,000 check presented Wednesday was the first from the charitable fund created in Adenhart's name to benefit Little League baseball. Adenhart graduated from Williamsport High. Jim Adenhart, Nick's father, said at the tournament game where the donation was made, "This is where it all first started." Adenhart, a Los Angeles Angels pitcher, and two others died when their car was broadsided April 9 in Fullerton, Calif., by a minivan.

Minor leagues: : Former Towson University infielder Shane Justis of the Double-A Huntsville Stars has been selected to start in the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game on July 13 in Birmingham, Ala. A native of Bel Air and a graduate of Bel Air High, Justis plays second base and leads off for Huntsville, a Milwaukee Brewers affiliate.


Goldbarg joins UMBC women's basketball coaching staff

UMBC women's basketball coach Phil Stern announced that Jaclyn Goldbarg has joined the Retrievers' staff as an assistant coach. Goldbarg played shooting guard at Brown University, where she averaged 1.8 points and 0.7 rebounds in 28 games during an injury-marred career. Goldbarg spent her senior season of 2008-09 as a student assistant coach, helping with player development, practice, training and film breakdown.

Navy water polo: : Coaches Mike Schofield and Mladen Stanicic recently announced their 2009 recruiting class, which features 13 players from five states, including several local athletes. Among those joining the Midshipmen are Julius Cort Jones (South River) of Crofton, Scott Sabbatini (St. Mary's) of Annapolis, and Tyler Thein (Loyola) and John "Archie" Warren (Calvert Hall) of Baltimore.

Bel Air to host under-15 national championships

Thirty girls teams and 32 boys teams from across the United States will contend for the first US Lacrosse under-15 national championships in Bel Air. Girls play starts Monday, concluding with the championship game at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Boys play starts Wednesday with the championship game at 2 p.m. next Friday. All games are at Cedar Lane Sports Park.
