The three-time American League Most Valuable Player had surgery March 9 in Vail, Colo., to remove an impingement in the joint and drain a cyst in the hip.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Rodriguez would stretch, do agility work, jog, take grounders, hit off a tee and take soft-toss swings Monday.
The third baseman is expected to return to the lineup in May.
"So much depends on how he feels the next day," Girardi said Sunday. "If he has a setback, it will be awhile."
First baseman Mark Teixeira (Mount St. Joseph) was held out of the lineup Sunday for the second consecutive game with tendinitis in his left wrist.
Diamondbacks: : Ace Brandon Webb is headed to the 15-day disabled list with tightness in his pitching shoulder. Arizona decided to make the move, retroactive to Tuesday, after Webb tested his shoulder by playing catch Sunday. Manager Bob Melvin said the team wanted to be cautious with Webb, who won the 2006 National League Cy Young Award and finished runner-up the past two years.
Pirates: : Pittsburgh pulled off a triple play in its loss at Cincinnati, its first since Aug 10, 1993, at St. Louis. With Brandon Phillips on second base, Jay Bruce on first and the Reds leading 2-0 in the eighth inning, Edwin Encarnacion hit a blooper into short left field that was caught by shortstop Jack Wilson. Phillips, running on the pitch, was around third base and was out when Wilson threw to Freddy Sanchez at second. Bruce was already at second, and Sanchez threw to first baseman Adam LaRoche.
Rays: : Tampa Bay optioned outfielder Matt Joyce to Triple-A Durham, making room for center fielder B.J. Upton to be activated from the 15-day DL for Monday's home opener against the Yankees. Upton was on the DL after undergoing offseason surgery on his left shoulder.
