The Baltimore Sun

Kristen Brown

* McDonogh

* She is one of the area's most versatile track athletes. The junior helped the Eagles to an easy championship indoors and can do a mix of jumps, sprints, relays and hurdles.

Jenna Cimino

* Hereford

* Cimino is coming off a strong indoor track season, during which the senior ran on two relays and won the 800- and 1,600-meter runs at the Class 3A state meet. Her versatility gives the Bulls a boost, especially against bigger teams.

Katie Harman

* River Hill

* The senior overcame injuries to hit her stride during the winter and became one of the metro area's top distance runners. Harman combines with Anna Demaree to give the Hawks consistent efforts.

Amanda Kimbers

* McDonogh

* The combination of Kristen Brown and Kimbers makes McDonogh nearly unbeatable. Kimbers, a senior, helps the Eagles pile up big numbers of points.

Maura Linde

* Century

* The sophomore is quickly developing into one of the state's top distance runners. She was dominant last spring for Century and kept going last fall by winning the Class 2A state title in cross country. She also took second in the 1,600 meters at the indoor meet, breaking a 2A record in the process.

Amber Melville

* North Carroll

* She became one of the area's top high jumpers this winter and grew into a constant point-scorer for the Panthers. At the Class 4A state meet, she came in as the top-seeded jumper and won the state title. She can also help the team with her running ability.

Rachel Pillion

* Towson

* Pillion led the Generals to the Class 3A state title in cross country last fall and followed that with a strong season indoors. The senior easily won the 3,200 meters at the state meet and should be one of the area's top distance runners again this spring.

Sasha Smallwood

* Pikesville

* The sophomore turned heads at the Class 1A state meet indoors by crushing the competition with a vault of 11 feet, 1 inch. It was easily the best in any of the four classes at the state meet.

Elizabeth Tauber

* John Carroll

* Despite being a sophomore, she quickly became one of the area's top distance runners last fall. She captured the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland cross country title and finished second (behind Erin Laschinger of Notre Dame Prep) in the 3,200 at this winter's IAAM title meet.

Zoey Whittington

* Catonsville

* She broke through this winter with some big-time efforts at the Hispanic Games in New York and two state championships (Class 3A 300 and 500 meters). The sophomore will play a big role in the Comets trying to claim the Baltimore County title they narrowly lost last spring.
